Create a Rebound Routine
We’ve talked before about creating a rebound mindset, and I believe it’s 100% important to have your “rebound mantra” at the ready. But I know that sometimes you just can’t talk yourself out of embarrassment, disappointment, guilt, shame, etc. That inner voice can be stronger than our best self-talk.
For times like these, when the worry seems unstoppable, you need a rebound routine to support your rebound mantra. You need to take action to break the cycle of negativity and make your self-talk more impactful.
Give yourself a moment. Be mad or sad for a bit, but then make yourself rally. I suggest that you actually give yourself a deadline, set a limit on your literal down time, and when the timer goes off, take action via your ‘rebound routine’ to rebuild confidence and get back in the game.
Here are a few examples of rebound routines:
Put on your headphones, and play your pump up song!
Take your favorite walk around the block, and leave your worry behind.
Go get a great cup of coffee; something special. Sip it to reboot.
Work out hard – and leave your stress at the gym.
Consider a new book or a divergent podcast.
Give yourself a real treat! For me, a pedicure is a boost that lasts!
The secret of success in a rebound routine is your commitment to using the process to outsmart worry and begin again on a more positive note. So, it’s not just distraction – but distraction with commitment to reboot and get back in the game.
